Mars’s gravitational pull effects the oceans of Earth

We all learn in school that our Moon makes the tide rise and fall, but I was today years old when I recently found out that it’s not the only celestial body that has an effect on the oceans of Earth.

According to Nature.com, a recent study found that Mars’s gravitational pull effects the oceans of Earth! They state – By comparing more than 50 years of deep-sea drilling records with shifts in Earth’s orbit, researchers found that the gravitational tug of Mars on Earth is causing it to wobble slightly on its axis.

Dr Adriana Dutkiewicz and her colleagues at the University of Syndney, Australia say they have found, a “Grand Cycle” spanning 2.5 million years. Evidence suggests that Mars’s gravitaional pull has had dramatic effects on the currents of Earth’s oceans.
